An analysis of 50 cases of acute appendicitis -in children under the age of 15 was carried
out which were treated at the department of surgery of Chungnam National University during 3 years period from Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1976. Author, having reviewed and analyzed the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, morbidity applied to these cases, obtained the results as followings.
1. The disease is rare under the age of 10, showed progressive increase from 10 to 15 years old. Ratio between male and female was 1.8:1.
2. Most clinical features, laboratory findings, complications and morbidity were more serious in the perforated group than non-perforated one.
3. The disease is more fulminant in the children than adult and the over-all perforation rate was 34. 0% in the children, comparing with 15 to 25% of adult appendiceal perfor￢ation and the perforation rate under the age of 10 was relatively high, 57.1%.
4. There was no mortality.
